Tariffs and determinations
A tariff is determined only where a tariff falls to be determined. Where two parties may contract at a price of their own agreement, the Authority stays out of it.
| Kind of supply | Who sets the price | Procedure |
|---|---|---|
| Bilateral supply to a bulk power consumer | The parties, by contract | Filed in Form M-1. No petition, no hearing, no determination. |
| Supply to a consumer below the threshold | The Authority, under section 19 | Tariff petition, public notice, hearing, reasoned determination. |
| Microgrid consumer tariff | The Authority, after public hearing | Because these consumers have no alternative supplier. |
| Use of system charges | The network licensee, on a published methodology | Filed with the Authority. A user may object and the Authority may direct revision. |
How a tariff petition is decided
Petition
Filed with the petition fee and the supporting financial model.
Notice
Published on this website, with the period for intervention.
Hearing
In public. Consumers and interveners are heard, free of charge.
Determination
In writing with reasons, published with the tariff.
Review
A person aggrieved by a determination may seek a review. Every determination states that a review may be sought and the period within which it must be filed. The petition fee for a review is Rs 100,000; a consumer complaint carries no fee at any stage.
Where no wires reach
A settlement with no supply, or a few hours of it, can be served by one operator under a single microgrid licence. Because these households have nowhere else to buy, the Authority sets the tariff after a public hearing, and the operator must connect anyone in the area who asks.
Determinations
The entries below are specimens, showing the format in which every determination is published: the number, the matter, the parties, the date and the outcome, with the full reasons attached. Live determinations replace them as they are made.

Every determination is published within seven days of the decision, alongside the instrument to which it relates, and remains available afterwards. Where a reason would disclose a commercial term of a contract it is recorded separately and is not published, and the fact of the separate record is stated.
